Please Note:
The following project is still in development and in its final stages of release. RIT Auxiliary Services has allowed me to show the project in my portfolio, but your discretion is appreciated as the app has yet to be released.
OVERVIEW
I was hired by RIT Auxillary Services to create an augmented reality app that allows students to see the RIT campus in various settings and showcases the global RIT campuses.
I designed and developed the majority of the application. The project was designed using Figma and developed in Unity. Nearing the end of the project, I handed off the Unity project to a developer for final build debugging and screen transitions. Prior to handing off the file, I implemented the UI into Unity, added functionality to the menu and scrolling and built the AR portion of the app using Vuforia.
All photos of the RIT campus were taken by myself.
THE PROMPT
Enhance the prospective student experience.
THE PROBLEM
Prospective students visit the RIT campus in the summer when the majority of the student body is away on break. Additionally, not all prospective students can travel to Rochester.
ONBOARDING
Augmented reality is a new experience for many users. It was essential to provide an onboard for users so they could understand how to interact with the application. The onboard is also accessible from every screen in the app in the situation a user is having difficulty placing the 360 portal.
HOME
Each section of the app shows users different perspectives of RIT.
TOURS
The Tours catergory is catered towards prospective RIT students. They are able to see RIT's campus and housing options.
GLOBAL
RIT has 5 global campuses. Students are able to see what a RIT student in Dubai, Dubrovonik, Zagreb, Kosovo and Weihai experience every day. This is a really unique opportunity for a student considering studying abroad.
spiRIT
The spiRIT section shows RIT at its peak excitement. Sit in the student as the Tigers win a hockey game or experience a variety of RIT festivals and events.
AUGMENTED REALITY
ASSISTANCE
The app offers users a point of reference as they are scanning the environment. The purpose of this is to allow users to understand the app is scanning the environment and not just a live view of their environment. The assistance also reninforces the users interaction with the app.
AR PORTAL
After a user places the portal, they walk through the doorway and are able to view the surrounding video in 360 degrees. The user is able to see through the portal back in to their real world if they turn around in the portal. If the user walks back into their real world, the portal is still there for them when they turn around.
In this video, the user is walking into RIT Dubai's Student Union.
